As Mel Tucker said earlier this month, Michigan State football is remaining active in the transfer portal — this time offering defensive back Jason Simmons Jr. of New Mexico State.
Simmons announced the scholarship offer from the Spartans via Twitter on Thursday evening.

Simmons — who is listed at 6-foot and 193 pounds — started as a true freshman for New Mexico State where he recorded 62 total tackles, one forced fumble and three passes defended in 2019. New Mexico State didn’t play this past fall due to COVID-19.
Coming out of high school, Simmons was a three-star recruit and the No. 186 safety prospect in the class of 2019. He is from Lancaster, Texas.
Simmons entered his name into the transfer portal on Monday, and has already received scholarship offers from Western Kentucky and North Texas as well. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
