Michigan State is in the market for a punter with the transfer of Jack Bouwmeester and decommitment of Mark Vassett. That leads us to former Louisville punter Ryan Harwell, who put his name in the transfer portal last week. He has two years of eligibility remaining and was a JUCO All-American.
He averaged 40.1 yards per punt as a freshman last year and has been in contact with the staff at Michigan State. The Spartans have three punters on roster: Bryce Baringer, Tyler Hunt and Evan Morris. Baringer was the first team punter last season while Tyler Hunt played more of a utility-man role that saw him play a few snaps at tight end.
If the Spartans can get Harwell to transfer to Michigan State, that would be a huge get at a very depleted position.
