Michigan State went on the road to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday night in Iowa City. The Spartans played hard, and fought hard, but ultimately dropped the contest against Iowa, 26-16.
The Spartans trailed at the half 10-9, but a Cal Haladay fumble return for a touchdown gave the Spartans a 16-10 lead in the third quarter. That lead vanished after a couple of field goals from Iowa tied the game 16-16.
The turning point in the game came when Iowa’s returned a punt for a touchdown, giving Iowa a 23-16 lead. A field goal after a Tre Mosley fumble gave the Hawkeyes the decisive two score win.
Turnovers and penalties killed the Spartans, once again. The Spartans turned the ball over four times in the game and once on downs, while committing 10 penalties in the game.
Michigan State will be back in action in two weeks, traveling to New Jersey for a contest with Rutgers.
