While it seemed that Michigan football was likely to get players back instead of lose more now that the 2020 season has been reinstated by the Big Ten, the Wolverines lost an underrated piece to its special teams unit.
It’s often said that for many special teams players, if you don’t know their name, that means they’re doing a good job. But for longsnapper Cam Cheeseman, most Michigan football fans know his name because he’s done a great job. However, it seems they’ve seen him suit up in maize and blue for the last time.
Cheeseman took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he is opting out of the 2020 season with eyes on becoming a pro player come 2021. He noted that it’s been a dream of his to wear the winged helmet, though his Michigan football career has come to an end.

With Cheeseman out, Michigan has two longsnappers currently on the team — 2019 class preferred walk-on William Wagner, who was Kohl’s Kicking’s No. 14 LS that year; and 2020 class LS Greg Tarr, who was a five-star according to Rubio’s rankings, as the No. 6 longsnapper.
