How do you limit an impending quarterback competition? You remove one from the equation.

That’s what happened last year, when Dylan McCaffrey departed the team with intentions to transfer, paving the way for Joe Milton to get the nod for the season opener. Looks like the same thing is happening again, but this time, Milton is out.

Milton had a spectacular debut against Minnesota, but started to struggle more and more as each game progressed. By the Rutgers game, he was pulled for Cade McNamara, who went on to start the following week against Penn State.

On Thursday, Milton announced his intentions to transfer.

With Milton out of the picture, the impending quarterback battle this spring appears to be between McNamara and early-enrollee and former five-star J.J. McCarthy.
