Well, the last time that Michigan was an underdog and the line was closer than anticipated, it didn’t turn out so well.
This time around, as Michigan prepares to take on the daunting challenge of the Alabama Crimson Tide, perennial national championship contenders, as the lines are set for the VRBO Citrus Bowl, one would think the school from Tuscaloosa would be overwhelming favorites.
It turns out, the opening line suggests that the Crimson Tide are favored by less than a touchdown.
Yes, really.
Of course, we don’t know much about who will be playing for Alabama, even though it presents a significant challenge with perhaps more talent than any other team nationally. However, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa won’t be playing. As far as star wide receivers DeVonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs or Jaylen Waddle, we don’t know yet if they will or not.
Regardless, according to Wager Talk, the opening line is set at just 6.5 points favoring Alabama, with an over/under at 54.5.

It’ll be a challenge, for sure. But it’s one Michigan really, really should get up for.
