Being within 10 miles of USC, a majority of football prospects from the Los Angeles area end up playing for the Trojans.
Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra 2021 three-star wide receiver Devin Kirkwood might just end up elsewhere despite possessing an offer from his hometown program.
Kirkwood has Michigan and Notre Dame at the top of his list. Both schools have offered along with USC, Arizona State, BYU, Nevada, Oregon State, Utah and Utah State.
“I’ve always loved Michigan growing up,” Kirkwood said. “I would love to attend Michigan, but it depends on how my first visit goes.”
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound receiver plans to make a trip to see the Wolverines during spring practices, but he doesn’t have a specific date set.

For the visit to be a successful one, Kirkwood has boxes he needs coach Jim Harbaugh’s group to help check.
“For them to be genuine and make me feel at home,” Kirkwood said, “talk to the skills coach and see all the college has to offer.”
He also wants a photo shoot in a Michigan football jersey.
Regardless of Kirkwood’s status as a prospect from the West Coast, he said Michigan will forever hold a place in his heart.
“It’s one of my top choices of future universities to attend after high school,” he said.
On defense for the Cavaliers, Kirkwood made 34 tackles, six pass breakups and one interception.
Kirkwood is ranked No. 848 in the country, No. 81 as an athlete and No. 73 in California, according to the 247Sports Composite.
