Michigan misses out on top 2021 CB target

Michigan football had hoped to reel in the elite Southern California defensive back but the hometown school won out.

Michigan football only brought in one cornerback in the 2021 recruiting class in Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas three-star Ja’Den McBurrows, but it looks like, as far as pure recruits and not transfers go, that will be it for the Wolverines.

The maize and blue had been hot and heavy after Los Angeles (CA) Loyola four-star corner Ceyair Wright, who attended David Long’s high school and moonlights as an actor — he is appearing in the Space Jam reboot. Wright was so serious about Michigan that he made his way, on his own dime, to Ann Arbor to check out campus during the 2020 season. However, the prospective film major felt that the pull to the nation’s premier cinema program was enough to keep him home.

Wright pledged to USC live on the All-American Bowl’s commitment special on Saturday.

With that, Michigan football will either stand pat or attempt to bring in a transfer at defensive back. Last year, the Wolverines secured a fellow four-star DB from SoCal in Darion Green-Warren.

Notre Dame, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford and Arizona State were the other finalists for his services.
