With just one cornerback secured in the 2021 class, Michigan football cannot afford to miss out on any of its top targets in 2022.
New Jersey had been a rich state for the Wolverines, as the maize and blue seemed to be able to dip in and take who it wanted when Chris Partridge was a coach on staff. What’s more, for one year, Michigan had fellow New Jersey native Anthony Campanile coaching linebackers, which made a big difference in recruiting Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic, as his brother is the head coach there.
However, no prospects from that school ended up in Ann Arbor, as the 2021 targets looked elsewhere with both recruiters gone. But, that could change, if the 247Sports Crystal Ball is an indication of anything.
Michigan has been hot and heavy after four-star cornerback Jaeden Gould from Bergen Catholic, a 2022 prospect rated No. 115 overall by 247Sports. And as the Wolverines continue to have 100% of the 247Sports Crystal Balls out of the four predictions made, they still needed to make the cut for Gould. With his newly released top 12, they did just that.

Michigan might be the favorite, but there are some heavy hitters in his top group. Texas — with new head coach Steve Sarkisian — Notre Dame, USC, Florida, Penn State and Tennessee all made the cut.
Gould is the No. 15 corner and second-best player in the state of New Jersey in 2022, according to 247Sports’ proprietary rankings.
Mike Zordich is listed as Gould’s primary recruiter to the Wolverines.
