The past month in recruiting for Michigan football saw what was the No. 1-2 class drop. Now, the Wolverines are No. 5, so it’s not like the maize and blue have plummeted. But with player re-ranks, and, more importantly, missing on targets Michigan appeared to lead for, the 2024 class isn’t quite as special as it once appeared.
The latest is 2024 Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day four-star wide receiver Jordan Shipp. The high school teammate of commits Jadyn Davis and Channing Goodwin appeared to be planning to join the duo in Ann Arbor. However, on the eve of his commitment, Shipp’s 247Sports crystal ball predictions have flipped from Michigan football to North Carolina.
While that’s not as disheartening as losing other recruits that Michigan appeared to have an advantage for — Justin Scott, Aaron Chiles, and others — it’s still a trend-line the Wolverines would like to reverse. Of course, there have been commitments, namely edge rushers Elias Rudolph and Jacob Smith, and Michigan has 26 commitments in 2024, but the program has to be getting antsy with losing players it once appeared in line for.
