Michigan football quick film hits: Ohio State

Michigan football lost to Ohio State 56-27 on Saturday. What were the main film takeaways from the loss?

DEFENSE

  • On the first big run by Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins, linebacker Jordan Glasgow went to the wrong hole and it gave Dobbins an easy first down, and with the lucky bounce off the fumble, a nice 35 yard gain.
  • On the big third and long catch by Dobbins, linebacker Cam McGrone should have stayed inside on the coverage on Dobbins. If he doesn’t get picked he might make a tackle and force a field goal.
  • On the first deep touchdown pass by Ohio State, cornerback Lavert Hill makes OSU wide receiver Chris Olave run past him for safety Josh Metellus to cover and Metellus second-guessed himself and let Olave run right by wide open for the score.
  • Michigan only allowed one crossing route all game long and it was a mistake by the Wolverines as cornerback Ambry Thomas ran into one of his teammates and allowed a big play. That was a common theme for Michigan in this game, allowing multiple big plays.
  • On the first play of the second half, linebacker Khaleke Hudson goes inside to stop the run when he should’ve stayed on the outside. Instead, it turns into a big run for Dobbins and Ohio State.
