There’s good news and there’s bad news. So, let’s start with the good news.
Michigan football had a midweek official visit from 2023 DeSoto (Tx.) five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II, and it apparently went rather well. Hailing from the same high school as Gemon and German Green, Cook posted a lot of pictures from his visit, and it looked like the Wolverines were making a move.
In fact, the maize and blue did, at least to some degree. Cook’s top three were revealed on Friday night, and along with Texas and Oregon, Michigan made the cut of his final three schools.

But there is bad news here. With No. 1 overall recruit in 2023, quarterback Arch Manning, having committed to Texas on Thursday, Cook’s recruitment appears to be trending through Austin. Since Manning’s commitment, Cook has received four 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions all indicating that he’ll stay in his home state and become a Longhorn once it’s all said and done.
