The transfer portal is supposedly closed for teams not in the national championship game, but don’t tell many out there in college football. That’s because many are still entering, and apparently Michigan football isn’t immune.
The Wolverines have lost many to the transfer portal this cycle but not many of them are starters or players who have been in regular rotation. Among the starters are wide receiver Tyler Morris and center Dominick Giudice, while quarterback Alex Orji and offensive lineman Andrew Gentry were in heavy rotation and started a few games. On Wednesday, the maize and blue lost a player in rotation who’s had opportunities, but never was able to make the most of them.
Jeff Persi started a handful of games — in 2022, he started against Rutgers, and in 2024, he started when Evan Link was dealing with injury, before Gentry took over. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Persi has entered the transfer portal and will be a grad transfer.

As a grad transfer and member of the 2020 class, he has one season of eligibility remaining. Without Persi, the Wolverines will likely have a tackle competition between Andrew Sprague (who started in the bowl game), Evan Link, Nathan Efobi, Blake Frazier, Andrew Babalola, and a potential transfer.
