Michigan football loses out on another top 2024 target

Not good.

Call it zero-for-two for Michigan football out of Olney (Md.) Good Counsel in 2024.

The former high school of once-Wolverine cornerback Blake Countess appeared to have the inside track for two players from the storied high school in the DMV, yet linebacker Aaron Chiles surprised last week by choosing Florida over the maize and blue, despite having been a longtime lean to come to Ann Arbor. The other player out of Good Counsel who appeared to make Michigan his choice also opted for another opportunity.

2024 four-star EDGE Darien Mayo is ranked the No. 178 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite and was expected to make it to Ann Arbor for his official visit this weekend. However, instead, he committed to Clemson.

With Mayo off the board, Michigan will continue to focus on Jacob Smith — twin brother of current commit Jerod Smith — and Deerfield Beach (Fla.) four-star Elias Rudolph, who appears to be trending to the Wolverines after unexpectedly eliminating Ohio State and choosing not to take his official visit to Columbus.
