Michigan football flips a big-time defensive lineman back into the fold

BOOM!!! #GoBlue

It was bad news for Michigan football when it had lost a prized commit to an SEC team, but it appeared to be a long time coming.

Well, the Wolverines have gotten revenge on Auburn by taking that prized commit back.

2025 Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick four-star defensive lineman Nate Marshall was one of Sherrone Moore’s first big commitments in the class. Marshall pledged to the Wolverines in the spring, and his commitment was evidence that Moore and company were going to be able to swing for the fences. However, Marshall ended up flipping to Auburn in August, in what appeared to be an NIL play.

But Michigan can play NIL now, too, and on the day before signing day, Moore was able to get Marshall to flip back to the maize and blue.

Here is how Marshall currently ranks according to the recruiting services:

* Ovr Pos St
247Sports Composite 4 55 8 3
On3 Industry Ranking 4 59 7 3
247Sports 4 109 15 3
On3 4 94 9 4
ESPN 4 83 5 3
Rivals 5 26 2 1

And the scouting report from 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Has a background that includes basketball and offense, where he sometimes splits way out wide and can be effective playing from that spot. Carries that athleticism over to defense where he is comfortable in space and pursuit. Can change directions and chase down plays. Shows motor and does not give up on plays. Shifts from outside to inside and has played up and down the line. Carries his weight very well so could continue to pack on pounds and be a combo guy in college. Does not currently have bad weight. Long-term projection is likely most likely as a five-tech but that depends on physical development. Combo of athleticism and versatility make him a high-end prospect. Has to continue developing from a technical standpoint with his hands and get stronger, but he looks like he will be a starter for high-major program and has the baseline tools to play beyond college.

Marshall rejoins the class with Bobby Kanka, but now four-star Benny Patterson is also in the fold. With early signing day on Wednesday, there’s a strong likelihood that he remains in the fold this time around.
