Michigan football 2025 recruiting best guess list – May

If we had to choose #Michigan’s 2025 class today, here’s what it would be. #GoBlue

Michigan football is set to start hosting recruits for official visits, mostly in the pivotal month of June, but beginning on May 31. It will be in the next month that the 2025 class is forged as the Wolverines start to see commitments come their way.

The maize and blue currently have five commits, a number that appears to keep growing and shrinking throughout the cycle. Players like cornerback Chris Ewald and linebacker Mantrez Walker have come and gone, but for the moment, the Wolverines appear to have a handle on the group it currently has pledged. But starting in June, you can expect that number to finally grow.

With that in mind, we’re going to start making monthly predictions as to what the class ends up looking like. Using the median number of 25 commits, below we’re projecting what the 2025 class will be along with confidence levels we have in our prediction.

COMMITTED

School: Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot

Rating: 4-star, No. 160 overall (247Sports Composite)

When Smith committed to Michigan football, it was done with little fanfare last fall. But now, the dual-threat quarterback may end up being a blessing in disguise.

At the time of his pledge, all the chips were in for five-star Bryce Underwood, but Smith has risen from a three-star with little hype to being a four-star who could be a game-changer for the Wolverines.

Confidence: 5/10

School: Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School

Rating: 3-star, No. 32 RB (247Sports)

Mills-Wright is a three-star from Chattanooga, Tennessee who quietly has quickly amassed 35 offers, many from the premier programs in college football. Because of that, it’s difficult to ascertain if he’ll end up in the class or not, as he’s still doing his due diligence, but even despite the late push from Michigan, the Wolverines are in the thick of it with him. He’s expected to take an official visit on June 4.

Confidence: 4/10

School: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Rating: 4-star, No. 231 overall (247Sports Composite)

Johnson has some big-time offers but it’s unclear who leads in his recruitment. Michigan is in it, but it’s no sure thing at this juncture. The Wolverines would love to add someone like him or five-star Jordon Davison, but there’s still some time to go.

Confidence: 7/10

School: Red Oak (Tx.)

Rating: 4-star, No. 292 overall (247Sports Composite)

Williams maintains he has no leader as of yet, but he fits Michigan’s offensive scheme perfectly. The Wolverines are pitching him as being the next Roman Wilson, and with a visit coming up on June 21, he feels like he’s Michigan’s to lose. But Texas A&M and Penn State will also have their say.

Confidence: 2/10

School: Destrehan (La.)

Rating: 3-star, No. 514 overall (247Sports Composite)

Another sub-6-foot, speedy receiver who perfectly fits Michigan’s scheme, Wright appears to be favoring Georgia Tech — but that’s something the Wolverines could overcome with a push. There are other receivers on the board (such as five-star Derek Meadows) but at the moment, it’s more likely Michigan adds truer to type. The Louisiana connection could pay off for Ron Bellamy with Wright.

Confidence: 2/10

School: Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic

Rating: 4-star, No. 49 overall (247Sports Composite)

This one would be a shoo-in if Chris Partridge was still on staff, but it might be a harder pull with him gone. Michigan had a pipeline to New Jersey and are still in good standing with Porter. But with Ohio State also coveting him and the Buckeyes getting a visit from him a week earlier (he visits Ann Arbor on June 21) it may be tough to overcome. But for now, we’re including him with a lower confidence level.

COMMITTED

School: Alcoa (Tenn.)

Rating: 4-star, No. 399 overall (247Sports Composite)

Owens has been committed since January and should be a lock to remain in the class. He has offers from Alabama, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

Confidence: 7/10

School: Center Valley (Penn.) Southern Lehigh

Rating: 4-star, No. 130 overall (247Sports Composite)

Olesh was thought to be a Penn State lean, but there’s lately been a lot of buzz that he’s now leaning towards leaving the Keystone State for Ann Arbor. Alabama and Florida will also have a say but Michigan gets the final official visit on June 21.

Confidence: 3/10

School: Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest

Rating: 5-star, No. 25 overall (247Sports Composite)

The five-star appears to be favoring Stanford at the moment, but with Sherrone Moore’s Kansas connection, as well as Michigan’s mix of academics and athletics, and the offensive line prowess, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up in the class. Michigan certainly makes a better pitch, from an athletic standpoint, than the others he’s considering.

Confidence: 7/10

School: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Rating: 3-star, No. 430 overall (247Sports Composite)

Usually, we wouldn’t predict a Spartan legacy to end up in Ann Arbor, but it sure feels like it’s trending that way. MSU isn’t necessarily out, but he flat-out told us that it isn’t doing a good job of recruiting him. Michigan is in a great spot but does have to worry about LSU and Ohio State.

COMMITTED

School: Birmingham (Mich.) Groves

Rating: 4-star, No. 246 overall (247Sports Composite)

One of two players to have committed to Michigan since Sherrone Moore became the head coach, despite Ohio State’s push, it seemed like a matter of time before Gach became a Wolverine.

Confidence: 5/10

School: Doylestown (Penn.) Central Bucks East

Rating: 4-star, No. 201 overall (247Sports Composite)

Michigan is in a good spot with one of the most highly-recruited prospects along the offensive line this cycle, but is fighting off in-state Penn State, Alabama, and Georgia. The Wolverines could win out but a lot will depend on his June 21 official visit.

Confidence: 3/10

School: Las Vegas (Nv.) Bishop Gorman

Rating: 4-star, No. 67 overall (247Sports Composite)

A five-star on some recruiting services, there isn’t enough mention of Michigan’s chances with Utu. Washington appears to be the other contender, but with an official visit on the docket for May 31, the Wolverines have a chance to really make a move.

COMMITTED

School: Howell (Mich.)

Rating: 4-star, No. 379 overall (247Sports Composite)

There was some public speculation that Kanka and the new staff may not have been a match, but that seems to be quelled and the in-state product who committed in Aug. 2023 appears to be a lock to remain in the class.

COMMITTED

School: Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick

Rating: 4-star, No. 41 overall (247Sports Composite)

The first commit for Sherrone Moore, Marshall pledged just weeks after Lou Esposito took over the defensive line. At the time of this writing, he’s Michigan’s highest-rated commit just outside of five-star range.

Confidence: 4/10

School: Palatine (Ill.)

Rating: 4-star, No. 235 overall (247Sports Composite)

Williams has three 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions indicating he’ll choose Michigan but the recruitment hasn’t had quite as much hype as it once did. With a strong connection to the old staff, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll end up in the class at this juncture.

Confidence: 6/10

School: Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley

Rating: 4-star, No. 156 overall (247Sports Composite)

Jones is set to visit Ann Arbor on May 31 and the Wolverines are in solid position for the elite edge rusher. But Texas and Texas A&M are making a push and both host him after the fact. There’s a long way to go in this recruitment, even if he is deciding relatively soon.

Confidence: 6/10

School: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Rating: 4-star, No. 67 overall (247Sports Composite)

There’s been some hype between Michigan and Owusu-Boateng of late but there are some other big suitors for him such as Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, and USC. But Brian Jean-Mary has done a good job recruiting him and he’s set to visit on June 21.

Confidence: 6/10

School: Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola

Rating: 4-star, No. 135 overall (247Sports Composite)

A Miami Hurricanes commit, there’s been buzz between Melendez and Michigan for quite some time. While it appears to be just a matter of time before he flips, he visits Ann Arbor on June 14 before going to Coral Gables the following week. Whatever he does at that point should tell us a lot.

Confidence: 6/10

School: Stockbridge (Ga.)

Rating: 3-star, No. 559 overall (247Sports Composite)

Georgia Tech and USC (both of the USCs) appear to be in contention but with Taylor visiting Ann Arbor for the big June 21 weekend, it seems like there’s a good chance he could end up in the class.

Confidence: 6/10

School: Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga

Rating: 4-star, No. 88 overall (247Sports Composite)

Set to visit Ann Arbor on May 31, Winston is quiet but appears to be trending toward Michigan. He still has visits to Penn State, Oregon, and North Carolina set up, however.

Confidence: 6/10

School: Winston Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor

Rating: 4-star, No. 157 overall (247Sports Composite)

Things heated up between Michigan and Blair some time ago, but they’ve quieted down a bit for now. He visits Ann Arbor on June 14 but also sees South Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida State, and Penn State before making his July 5 decision.

Confidence: 3/10

School: Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith

Rating: 3-star, No. 601 overall (247Sports Composite)

A player who seemed at one time to be a shoo-in to the class has looked around, thus making our confidence wane. At the moment, it’s unclear where he’s leaning.

Confidence: 5/10

School: Verona (Wisc.) Area

Rating: 3-star, No. 530 overall (247Sports Composite)

The nephew of SMSB director Curtis Blackwell, if Michigan is to push, it feels as if Poteat will be a Wolverine. However, the maize and blue do not appear to be pushing very hard at the moment. For now, we’re including him.

Confidence: 3/10

School: Columbus (Ohio) Marion-Franklin

Rating: 4-star, No. 122 overall (247Sports Composite)

After getting some predictions on Rivals that Galloway would become a Wolverine, 247Sports’ Allen Trieu put in a prediction he’d eventually land at Purdue. It doesn’t appear he has an official visit set up to Ann Arbor but he is seeing Purdue and Penn State. This one may have been trending towards Michigan before falling away, but we’re still keeping him in the class for now.
