The hits keep coming for Michigan basketball.
With Juwan Howard out as the Wolverines head coach, there was bound to be attrition. But the maize and blue are seeing star players depart before they learn who the new head coach will be in Ann Arbor.
On Sunday, Michigan lost guard George Washington III, a freshman who played very little. On Monday, the Wolverines lost star point guard Dug McDaniel, perhaps the biggest blow to the current roster.
The situation grew even worse on Tuesday when star center Tarris Reed Jr. revealed he was joining the duo in the transfer portal.
BREAKING: Michigan big man Tarris Reed plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells @On3sports.⁰⁰The 6-10 sophomore averaged 9.0 PTS & 7.2 REB this season. Former top-35 recruit. Big addition to the portal.

Michigan also lost its top-ranked commit in the 2024 class. Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy four-star forward Khani Rooths decommitted from the class.
There’s no telling what the roster may look like in 2024-25 under a new head coach. Given the current squad had a program-worst record of 8-24, perhaps that’s not such a bad thing, but it would be a benefit if the few bright spots from the last year returned.
