Michael McDowell’s 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season in review

Michael McDowell had a good year with Front Row Motorsports in the Cup Series. Here, you can check out McDowell’s 2023 season in review!

[autotag]Micheal McDowell[/autotag] made the 2023 playoffs with Front Row Motorsports, which can be immediately declared as a successful season. McDowell ended the year with one win, two top-5 finishes, and eight top-10 finishes. Unfortunately for the driver of the No. 34 car, he could not advance out of the Round of 16 for the first time in his career.

McDowell won at the Indianapolis Road Course, which was a very impressive feat as he held off Chase Elliott. Overall, it was one of the most impressive wins of the 2023 NASCAR season. McDowell closed the campaign with 97 laps led (20th-best) and a 19.0 average finishing position (20th-best); however, what went wrong for him?

The Front Row Motorsports driver didn’t have the speed or equipment to compete with the other playoff teams. McDowell only had three top-15 finishes in the 10-race playoffs. In fact, he only had one top-25 finish in the Round of 16 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Yet, there should be a lot to be positive about after the 2023 NASCAR season.

McDowell won his first non-superspeedway race in the NASCAR Cup Series and did it in impressive fashion. No one could have expected Front Row Motorsports to compete with the likes of Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing, but they did just that in Indianapolis. It was a successful year for McDowell, and he will look to improve upon it next season.
