Michael Carter reached out to Breece Hall as soon as he was drafted

Michael Carter knows there’s room for both he and Breece Hall in the Jets’ backfield this year

The Jets’ backfield got a bit more crowded after they drafted Breece Hall – viewed as the best back in the 2022 draft – early in the second round. That undoubtedly caused Michael Carter’s role to take a hit, leading to fewer touches for the second-year player.

But Carter isn’t sulking after the arrival of Hall. He reached out to the rookie as soon as he was drafted by the Jets 36th overall out of Iowa State. Carter knows there’s room for both of them in the backfield, too, saying they can all eat.

Carter played 14 games last season, carrying the ball 147 times for 639 yards and four touchdowns. He was also a productive receiver, catching 36 passes for 325 yards. Carter was a fourth-round pick himself in 2021, and while there’s a chance he’ll remain the starter, Hall is a very talented player who will eat into his touches.
