Sunday’s wild AFC Divisional game between the Texans and Chiefs saw Houston jump to a 24-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes only to go into halftime down 28-24.
The turnaround from the Chiefs was astounding — and historic — but it was Patrick Mahomes who took it upon himself to keep the team engaged.
NFL Films released its mic’d-up footage from the Divisional Round games this week, and we were able to see how a fired-up Mahomes responded when the Chiefs went down by 24 points. He stood in front of the bench and told his teammates to “do something special.” There’s no denying that Mahomes’ message got through to the Chiefs.
Down by 24, @PatrickMahomes led the @Chiefs in a playoff comeback for the ages.

Mahomes said:
“They’re playing man coverage. If we catch the ball and make one person miss, it’s touchdown. Let’s do something special. Let’s do something special. They’re already counting us the (expletive) out. One play at a time. Do something special.”
The Chiefs went on a 51-7 run after that pep talk, scoring touchdowns on seven straight possessions.
Kansas City will host the Titans in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.
