The Brooklyn Nets had a tough 2022-23 season as they had to juggle drama that eventually led to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant wanting out of Brooklyn for various reasons. Before the Nets traded Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, he could have been a member of the Miami Heat according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
In a recent episode of the Run It Back show on FanDuel TV, Charania detailed how the Heat are looking for another star-level player to pair with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo after Miami lost in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets in five games. Charania gave an example of the Heat’s desire to get better by saying that he was told that Miami inquired about Irving before Brooklyn traded him at the deadline.
The Nets traded Irving and forward Markieff Morris to the Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029. Irving wanted out of Brooklyn after failing to come to terms on a contract extension with the Nets that worked for both parties. Brooklyn went on to get swept in the first round of the playoffs to the Philadelphia 76ers while Dallas ended up missing the play-in tournament.
