All of the drama has led to this. Miami’s search for their next great quarterback continues, but we now know who will next be given to the keys to the offense once veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s time is over.
With the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have drafted Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to serve as the team’s next franchise quarterback. It’s been a long, winding road for the Dolphins and their search for the answer in Miami — but this has been the assumed pathway for Miami going all the way back to last spring when the Dolphins cut loose quarterback Ryan Tannehill in a trade with the Tennessee Titans.
Tagovailoa’s selection comes as the culmination of ample smokescreens paying dividends for Miami. Who would have thought that a “Tank for Tua” campaign would have culminated with Miami winning 5 games in 2019, picking 5th and still getting the chance to take a shot on Tagovailoa? Credit where it is due for the Dolphins, they’ve stood firm and stayed committed to keeping their picks — and now will see it pay off with two more selections left in the 1st-round and Tagovailoa in the boat.
Plenty more to come tonight for the Dolphins.
