The busy night for the Miami Dolphins continues as the team has made another selection in the 1st-round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Miami, who entered the night with three first round picks at their disposal. Miami was able to secure their perceived quarterback of the future early in the night, but the work is not done! The Dolphins must now build up the offense around their new young quarterback in an effort to give him the best chance to succeed.
The team followed suit in their rebuild for the offense by targeting a raw but gifted offensive tackle from USC, Austin Jackson, with the 18th overall selection.
Now, the Dolphins’ rebuild of the secondary is back underway. With the 30th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have drafted Auburn defensive back Noah Igbinoghene to further fill out the team’s secondary. This is something of a surprising selection, given that the team has stacked up notable names in the secondary and was perceived to need a safety more than they needed another corner.
Igbinoghene has only played a few years of defense — meaning he’s raw but he’s also a high ceiling prospect with plenty of room to grow. Between Igbinoghene, Byron Jones and Xavien Howard, the Dolphins’ secondary appears more than ready to bump heads with some of the AFC’s more potent passing offenses.
The best news of all? The Dolphins retained all of their Day 2 NFL Draft capital, which means when the NFL Draft resumes tomorrow night, Miami will pick at 39 and then again at 56 before securing their third selection of the night at pick No. 70.
