The final day of the NFL Combine wraps up today with the back end of the defense, the cornerbacks and safeties, taking the field at Lucas Oil Stadium to work out. The Dolphins are in a fascinating situation here, because ideally this team is able to build up the trenches for the 2020 season and improve the team’s pass rush and offensive line alike. But with Brian Flores looking to utilize so many defensive backs on the field of play, it may be impossible for the Dolphins to forego adding secondary players early on.
Here are some of the cornerbacks to watch, including some who may be able to step in and play opposite veteran Xavien Howard.
Cameron Dantzler – Mississippi State
There are not many corners that play man-to-man coverage better than Dantzler. He is not a huge corner but he is long and explosive. His tape against Alabama was thoroughly impressive as he matched up man-to-man against their top receivers. Week after week, Dantzler took the top receivers out of opposing offenses and passes hardly came his way. Look for him to really impress during his athletic testing and field drills.
Trevon Diggs – Alabama
Diggs is a perfect fit in the Dolphins defense with his ability to play man-to-man. Diggs has good length, measuring in at 6-1 and weighing a solid 205. The former Alabama corner has a knack for making plays and is aggressive in attacking the ball. He is not afraid to line up on an island against a team’s top receiver. He should be a solid tester and should look good in position drills.
C.J. Henderson – Florida
Another press-man corner with the ability to re-route receivers and match them every step. Henderson flips his hips into coverage very well and has the ability to match with ease. Henderson does a great job of getting hands on receivers early and rerouting them at the line of scrimmage. Henderson will get a chance to show off that ability during positional drills.
