Men’s college golf Player of the Week: AJ Ott, Colorado State

Colorado State senior AJ Ott earned the honor of men’s college golf Player of the Week thanks to two wins in seven days.

Winning a college golf tournament — or any, for that matter — is hard enough, let along winning multiple times in a single season.

Colorado State senior AJ Ott made it look easy last week.

The Fort Collins, Colorado, native earned two wins in the span of seven days this week, winning The Prestige Individual Invitational, held Feb. 15-17 at Coral Mountain Golf Club in La Quinta, California, and last weekend’s Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. Ott won the first event with a birdie on the first playoff hole, defeating Pepperdine junior Derek Hitchner, and shot a 4-under 68 in the final round to win in Wyoming by two.

Ott returned to the program this season, taking advantage of his extra year of NCAA eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pair of victories are the first two of his collegiate career.

“What a great week for AJ with back-to-back wins,” head coach Christian Newton said. “I couldn’t be happier for him. He deserves every bit of the success he is having as he works so hard on a daily basis. It’s awesome to see it paid off.”
