Grizzlies at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 114, Nets 109

Money line (ML)

The Nets were upset as 11-point road favorites by the Charlotte Hornets 106-104 Sunday. Durant and PG Kyrie Irving held up their end of the bargain; KD scored 29 points on 9-for-15 shooting with 4 assists while Irving had 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting and 6 assists. Brooklyn’s major issue was Charlotte feasting on the inside as the Hornets outscored the Nets 64-26 in the paint.

Memphis took a 122-112 home loss to the Atlanta Hawks as a 2.5-point favorite Saturday. The double-digit margin doesn’t indicate how close the game was but the Grizzlies did have an off-night shooting as Memphis made only 40% of its field goals and 30% of 3-pointers.

The Grizzlies won and covered the spread in both meetings with the Nets last season but it’s hard to take a lot away from those performances as Durant wasn’t playing for Brooklyn and Irving played in only the first head-to-head meeting—a 134-133 overtime win for Memphis.

Last season, Memphis led the NBA in points in the paint per game with 55.9 PPG and was 4th in fast-break points (17.2 PPG). Brooklyn was 10th in opponent’s PITP last year and didn’t have any notable bigs depart the team so the Nets’ last game could’ve been an aberration or a result of new coach Steve Nash’s game plan. The Grizzlies had a meager 44 PITP vs. the Hawks but had 66 PITP in their first game against the San Antonio Spurs last Wednesday.

Also, being as Grizzlies-Nets is part of a back-to-back for Brooklyn, KD could take a precautionary rest-day since he spent last season sidelined by injury. If Durant isn’t playing, I like the Grizzlies outright and we’re going to get an awesome price.

For now, I’ll “LEAN” GRIZZLIES (+280) for a quarter-unit with a plan to bet the spread heavier.

Against the spread (ATS)

BET GRIZZLIES +5.5 (-110) for 1.5 units. The pro-Memphis argument is in the section above and all we’re doing is making the safer/wiser play on Grizzlies plus points.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL.I’ve projected this game to fall short of BetMGM’s total; however, the market is betting the Over, according to Pregame.com. The market sees something I don’t, apparently, and I don’t feel like fading it.
