Mel Kiper suggests 3 QBs Titans can target late in 2020 NFL Draft

Kiper thinks there could be some solid options for the Titans late in the draft.

The Tennessee Titans need to add another quarterback at some point this offseason in order to compete with Logan Woodside for the backup role behind Ryan Tannehill.

While the coaching staff seems to be a fan of Woodside, he has never taken a regular season snap during his career. With that being the case, the Titans need to explore every option available to them at the position.

In a conference call with the media on Wednesday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper suggested three quarterbacks the team could target late in the 2020 NFL Draft.

He listed Florida International’s James Morgan, Hawaii’s Cole McDonald and Colorado’s Steven Montez, according to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“I think there are some interesting late-round guys,” Kiper said of the quarterbacks while speaking on the conference call. “James Morgan to me, from Florida International, is interesting. I like what he did – he’s a transfer from Bowling Green. He’s a 6-4, 230-pounder with nice arm. He can make the throws, and he moves well in the pocket. He’s a guy who is very competitive, very smart, great football IQ, great kid, works hard, loves to study the game, very passionate about the game of football. I like the way James Morgan played, and you get him on Day 3. I think he’s intriguing.

“Cole McDonald from Hawaii has some arm talent and he made some really good throws on crossing routes and hit the smaller receivers in stride. So I would say the two that would are most interesting to me would be Morgan and McDonald. Even Montez has a lot of talent at Colorado, but he’s erratic in terms of consistency and decision making throwing the football with accuracy.”

Of those three options, Kiper believes Morgan is the best of the bunch, followed by McDonald and then Montez.

In a recent report by Yahoo Sports’ Eric Edholm, not only has Tennessee met with Morgan, but he also states they are among the teams “that appear to be showing legitimate interest” in him.

If the Titans want to add a quarterback with more experience than Woodside and a 2020 prospect, there are still options out there, with Blake Bortles, Joe Flacco, Trevor Siemian and Matt Moore being among them.

For a team that is ready to win now, a veteran quarterback is probably the best bet if the team wants to stay afloat should Tannehill succumb to an injury.
