Former Vol Max Ferguson has been named the BeatBox Beverages Opening Week Batter of the Week.
Ferguson was selected by San Diego in the 2021 MLB draft. He was drafted in the fifth round with the 160th overall selection.
The former Vol is playing for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2022. The Storm plays in the California League and are a Single-A affiliate of the Padres.
Ferguson, the Vols’ starting second baseman in 2021, batted .253 for Tennessee, which won 50 games and made its first appearance in the College World Series since 2005. He hit 12 home runs and stole 15 bases last season.
Ferguson recorded a career batting average of .258 at Tennessee and hit 14 home runs.
