Advice and prediction
It’s entirely possible the new-look Lakers turn a corner on Friday and start to destroy the league, but we’ve seen this first unit struggle on back-to-back occasions since they started receiving representative minutes. The Lakers were outscored 39-21 by the Suns in the first quarter of their final preseason game, and fell behind the Clippers by 21 on opening night. It’s going to take some time for this roster to jell, and 6.5 points feels like a big line inflated by a poor shooting night by the Mavericks in their opener. I like Mavericks +3.5 first half and +6.5 for the full game.
This should also be a high-scoring game. The Mavs shot 42 percent in their opener and just 24 percent from 3, and that’s not likely to reoccur. I’m leaning over 227.5, but feel more confident about Dallas covering.
