Mavericks sitting out Kyrie Irving, four others vs. Bulls on Friday

Dallas seems to have hit the tank button with two games remaining.

The Chicago Bulls’ matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday just got a little less, or more, interesting.

On Friday morning, Mavericks PR announced that the team would be without five core rotation pieces, including two starters in Kyrie Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr.

For Dallas, this came as a surprise based on the importance of Friday’s game for the Mavericks. Dallas currently sits as the No. 11 seed in the West, 0.5 a game behind Oklahoma City for the final play-in spot.

If the Mavericks were to lose against the Bulls, their play-in hopes would come to an end, yet their chances of retaining their top-10 protected pick would increase.

With the Bulls likely resting DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, Friday’s matchup, outside of Luka Doncic, looks to be a battle of the role players.
