All eyes are on Matthew Stafford with training camp kicking off for the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday. Fans want to see positive remarks about the Pro Bowl gunslinger as he replaces Jared Goff under center in a high-octane offense.
Amid Stafford’s acclimation period with the Rams, the experienced signal-caller revealed his initial thoughts of his first training camp with his new team.
“It was great. It was good to just be out there and run around with the guys. Got some good work in. A bunch of stuff to clean up, but it was nice to be out here playing football again, doing it with a bunch of guys. It was fun,” Stafford said.
There were plenty of highlights in Stafford’s first training camp practice with the Rams, including a deep shot to DeSean Jackson that garnered the attention of fans. Besides Jackson, Stafford is clearly excited about the supporting cast he has to work with in Los Angeles.
“We’ve got a bunch of talented players, both on the offensive side of the ball, but also on defense,” he said. “They made some plays out there today, made it tough on us in some situations. It’s going to be a great battle all camp, just challenging ourselves to be as good as we can against the defense that was obviously as good as it was last year and is going to be a really good defense again this year. Both from a personnel point and from a scheme point, it’s a really big challenge for us on offense and just something that’s fun to try and get better each day and work against them.”
There are lofty expectations surrounding the Rams in 2021 due to the acquisition of Stafford, giving Sean McVay a lethal quarterback that can make things happen with his arm and legs. As Los Angeles hopes to achieve its ultimate goal of making it back to the Super Bowl, Stafford appears to be displaying exuberance in his introductory training camp with the Rams.
