Matthew Adams lands on COVID-19 list after ‘high risk’ contact outside Colts facility

Here’s why Matthew Adams is on the COVID-19 list.

The Indianapolis Colts placed linebacker Matthew Adams on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday as he traced as a high-risk close contact to someone outside the team facility who tested positive for the virus.

Adams had been on the injury report to open the week with being listed as “non-injury related,” and there are reports that he missed practice for reasons unrelated to this situation. The news was first reported by Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star and confirmed by Stephen Holder of the Athletic.

This means it could be an isolated incident, which is encouraging for the status of the game on Thursday night. But nothing is official until the teams and the league say it is so there is never a guarantee that the game is in the clear. But if it is an isolated incident, then there is a good chance the game will be played.

It remains to be seen if the Colts will release a statement on the matter. Most teams have done so when they have a player test positive for COVID-19 or when players must be placed on the reserve list.

Regardless, this will be a situation to monitor leading up to Thursday night’s game, which is set for a kickoff time of 8:20 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
