Last season the Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves their quarterback of the future in Kenny Pickett. But Pittsburgh still has to sort out the rest of the quarterback depth chart. Pickett needs a veteran behind him who is like another coach but can still fill in and win. A guy who is willing to assume that role and remain professional.
Sounds like Matt Ryan to me. On Tuesday the Indianapolis Colts chose to part ways with Ryan, allowing him to play his 16th season wherever he wants. No one is expecting Ryan to be the 2016 version of himself who was named an All-Pro. Nevertheless, Ryan still has good football in him if needed.
Ryan could also be a bargain for the Steelers. In his contract, he had a built-in guaranteed 2023 salary of $12 million from the Colts that they have to pay him regardless of where he lands. This would be great for the Steelers because he wouldn’t be demanding a huge payday on a one-year contract.
Let us know in the comments if you want to see the Steelers cut ties with Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky then bring in Ryan to be Pickett’s primary backup.
