Teddy Bridgewater made a huge blunder on Saturday night in Green Bay. His goal line fumble resulted in a massive swing for the Packers and was the single biggest reason for the Panthers’ latest loss.
To his credit, Bridgewater is taking ownership and admitting his mistake. Coach Matt Rhule says he spoke with the team after the game and fessed up. He was clearly still frustrated with his quarterback, though. Here’s what Rhule said, per the team website.
“Teddy talked to the team and he admitted, he said ‘I shouldn’t have done that.’ You get to the moment and you can’t do new things. You know, you are at Lambeau in December playing a good team. You just have to trust yourself. I’m not talking about just Teddy, but the whole team. That play was emblematic. You talk about dramatic shift. Had he done that on fourth down, I can live with it, just not on first down, especially when I think we ran the ball well when we did run it tonight. That’s just a principle of our team. We don’t reach the ball across the goal line until fourth down.”
Bridgewater also rebounded with a respectable-enough second half, despite being limited by some questionable playcalling from offensive coordinator Joe Brady. He scrambled for a touchdown and finished with 284 total yards.
That said, fans are understandably upset with No. 5. Some are starting to call for P.J. Walker to take his place in the last two games of the season.
