Matt Rhule rebukes Teddy Bridgewater for decision on goal line fumble

Teddy Bridgewater was supposed to be a game manager for these Panthers. Lately he hasn’t even been getting that part of the job right, though.

Last week, Bridgewater drew criticism from his coaches for a bad decision to rush a play before the two-minute warning against the Broncos. He apparently did not have permission to do so but went ahead against the advice of the staff. Tonight, Bridgewater made a far worse call and it sounds like he didn’t have clearance for this one, either.

Bridgewater’s fumble on his reach at the goal line was not only devastating for Carolina’s win probability, apparently it goes directly against what coach Matt Rhule has told him from day one. Here’s what Rhule said at halftime about Bridgewater’s gaffe.

Yikes.

It would be one thing if Bridgewater was having a season like Aaron Rodgers, not that that would excuse these lapses in judgement. Combined with his run of poor performances, this equates to a benchable offense.

It’s time for the Panthers to give P.J. Walker the ball for the rest of the season.
