Matt Rhule gives update on offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua

Matt Rhule noted that he would elaborate on the decision later in the week.

Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule indicated it was a “coach’s decision” for offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua to sit out of Saturday’s game against Northern Iowa.

This is notable given that Mazzccua played at right guard in the UTEP Miners and Colorado Buffaloes games. He helped bring consistency to the offensive line, a unit that has improved each week.

Mazzccua came from Florida in January. He officially entered the transfer portal in December. He is familiar with Rhule from his connection to the Texas area and the Baylor program. After the game, the head coach was asked about the decision not to play the lineman.

“Micah, I’ll probably address that later. It was just a coach’s decision. He’s still with us. He just didn’t play tonight.”

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops, given Mazzccua was a prominent piece of the offensive line over the first two games.
