Rams fans hoping to see rookie quarterback Justin Fields suit up for the Bears in Week 1 at SoFi Stadium are probably going to be disappointed by coach Matt Nagy’s latest comments on Chicago’s QB situation. Nagy once again doubled down on Andy Dalton being the Bears’ starting quarterback, committing to him as the signal caller for Week 1 against the Rams.
On “The Cris Collinsworth Podcast,” Nagy was asked if there’s any possible scenario in which Fields will start Week 1 in L.A.
“No. Andy is our starter. I can’t predict anything. You know how it goes. There’s so many things that can happen between today and Week 1, but Andy is our starter and Justin is our No. 2 and we’re going to stick to this plan,” he said.
Obviously, an injury to Dalton could change that and lead to Fields becoming QB1, but it sure sounds like the Bears are going to be patient with the No. 11 overall pick in his rookie season. Dalton is a capable player and Chicago signed him to be its starter this offseason, but Fields is the future of this team.
He will presumably play at some point this year, it just doesn’t seem like that time will be in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football.
