Last night was a brief interruption in the Los Angeles Lakers Showtime season as Orlando Magic guard Markelle Fultz and his redemption story–from former No. 1 pick, to bust, to a starter on a team with playoff aspirations–took center stage. And he did so while wearing LeBron James’ signature shoe.
After the game, Fultz was the talk of the postgame questioning on all sides. LeBron himself discussed how proud he was of Fultz for turning his career around after it looked like one of the weirdest stories in sports history, but Fultz also talked about the shoes. Fultz can’t wear the shoes that a typical guard wears due to his explosiveness, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“I love his shoe,” Fultz said. “I’m a powerful guard. People got to see it tonight a little bit. … A lot of shoes I almost rip out of and I can only wear once and they’re done. LeBrons have been a good shoes for me.”
LeBron isn’t quite a power guard but he certainly is a powerful player. Fultz is far from the only player in the league wearing LeBron’s signature shoes, but he just happened to shake LeBron while wearing them. For someone who looked up to James throughout his career, that had to be a pretty special moment for Fultz.
