Mario Lopez’s bizarre Colonel Sanders Lifetime movie, explained

It’s real!

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world.

On Monday, you may have seen some posters, photos and a trailer for a movie appearing on Lifetime called A Recipe for Seduction, starring Saved By the Bell and Extra star Mario Lopez. And yes, you might see that Lopez is playing Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame.

You may have asked yourself a very important question: wait, really?

The other important question: is this real? That’s what we’re here for. Let’s dive in and answer all of that and more.

Wait, really?

Yeah. Mario Lopez is … Colonel Sanders.

OK, you’re joking, this isn’t real.

It’s not REAL, it’s a TV movie.

But it’s a real television movie?

Yes!

Seriously?

Well … sort of. A Recipe for Seduction is an actual original “mini-movie” that will appear on Lifetime at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Dec 13. It does star Lopez as Colonel Harland Sanders, a chef who appears to steal the heart of a woman who’s being pushed into a relationship with another man.

What’s a mini-movie?

It’s 15 minutes long. So it’s not a full-on two-hour thing!

And it’s presented by Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Yes indeed!

So it’s sponcon!

Yeah! That’s it.

What’s the plot?

From EW.com:

“As the holidays draw near, a young heiress contends with the affections of a suitor handpicked by her mother. When the handsome chef, Harland Sanders, arrives with his secret fried chicken recipe and a dream, he sets in motion a series of events that unravels the mother’s devious plans. Will our plucky heiress escape to her wintry happily ever after with Harland at her side, or will she cave to the demands of family and duty?”

Wow.

I know.

And you’re not joking with me? April 1st isn’t approaching?

Nope.
