When veteran Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart received news of his trade to the Memphis Grizzlies after nine years in Boston, it left him shocked and saddened. While Celtics fans will undoubtedly miss his presence on the court, Smart’s departure will also be felt off of it as well.
The Flower Mound native had always envisioned retiring as a Celtic, and this unexpected trade disrupted those plans. However, his impact in Boston extended far beyond basketball. Smart’s involvement in the community, particularly in empowering young people and providing inspiration for pediatric cancer patients, made him a beloved figure.
