Marcus Maye is locked in for the 2021 season, but the Jets are running out of time if they want to sign him to an extension.
The Jets have until July 15 to sign Maye to a long-term deal after he accepted his $10.612 million franchise tag earlier this offseason. If the two sides aren’t able to agree on a new contract, Maye will play the 2021 season on the tag and could become an unrestricted free agent in 2022. The Jets could offer Maye a second franchise tag next offseason, too.
Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh have said that they want to extend Maye, but there hasn’t been any word on his negotiations since then. Maye attended mandatory minicamp earlier this summer – which is a good sign – but the next time he has to show up is at training camp at the end of July – after the deadline.
It’s unclear what Maye is looking for contract-wise, but he will likely command an annual salary somewhere between $13 million and $15 million.
