The Brooklyn Nets feel no pressure in contract extension talks with star guard Kyrie Irving, according to Marc Stein. Stein said that some around the NBA believe that the Nets could be doing this on purpose because they do not feel any pressure to sign Irving to an extension in a timely manner.
In a story published last week by Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, it was reported that Irving is seeking a contract extension with the Nets. Irving’s agent and stepmother, Shetellia Irving, told Haynes that she has reached out to the Nets about starting talks on a contract extension because they want to make Brooklyn home. However, she did say that they have not had any “significant” conversations with the Nets to date and that the “ball is in the Nets’ court” implying that Brooklyn is taking its time with Irving.
According to Haynes, Irving is eligible for a max contract extension of four years and “roughly” $200 million. Irving is in the last year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
