Manon Fiorot disappointed she missed Paris card, eager to prove she’s ready for title shot at UFC 280 instead

Manon Fiorot was the odd country-person out of UFC Paris and is now looking to prove a point at UFC 280.

ABU DHABI – [autotag]Manon Fiorot[/autotag] admits it was difficult being the odd country-person out as she watched her UFC counterparts deliver for the Paris crowd Sept. 3.

Originally scheduled to compete on the promotion’s debut card in France, Fiorot (9-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was moved to Saturday’s UFC 280 card instead. It was tough luck.

“I’m disappointed not to be a part of UFC in France in Paris the first time,” Fiorot told reporters including MMA Junkie at a pre-fight news conference. “But I love Abu Dhabi and now I’m happy to be here. … It was difficult to watch because UFC fans and French fans are really amazing – some of the best fans in the world. French fighters did a really great, great job. I’m still disappointed not to be part of this, but I’m really sure UFC will come back to France in short time and I’ll be part of the card this time.”

Saturday’s opponent, regardless of venue, is a tough test. Katlyn Chookagian (18-4 MMA, 11-4 UFC) has remained a perennial contender and a difficult out for almost all on-comers. Fiorot thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to show the world she’s championship caliber.

“It’s why I called out Katlyn after my Jennifer Maia fight, because I want to show I’m ready for the title fight. … To be honest, I don’t watch (my opponent’s) fights. I know she won by decision. I know she did five rounds. I think I can do better and want to finish.”
