In the midst of a season chock full of disappointment for the Boston Celtics, would it really sting badly enough to hand an old fan favorite a 10-day deal to help boost morale if nothing else? At least one prominent voice in the Celtics media sphere thinks so, despite numerous previous opportunities to do so this season.
NBC Sports Boston and Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix suggests that Boston ought to extend an offer to the King in the Fourth himself, IT. “At this point, Boston should take a flyer on (Isaiah Thomas).” tweeted Mannix on Saturday. “Passion isn’t there. Energy isn’t there. Mental toughness, by the coaching staff’s own admission, isn’t there. Why not take a shot on a guy who keyed one of the better post-title runs in recent Celtics history?”
It is a fair query we do not expect an answer nor resolution to given the complicated history between the beloved floor general and the evidently less-enamored front office.

Granted, the team could use the recently-opened roster spot vacated by Jabari parker for likely more forward-looking prospects, but given the issues facing the team in recent weeks, it’s hard to imagine a 10-day deal doing much in the way of poisoning the well further.
