Magic sign No. 32 pick Caleb Houstan to rookie contract

The former Michigan forward on Sunday signed his rookie contract with the Magic.

Former Michigan forward Caleb Houstan on Sunday signed his rookie contract with the Orlando Magic, the team announced.

The terms of the contract are not known.

Houstan, the 32nd pick in the NBA draft, averaged 10.1 points, four rebounds and 1.4 assists in 34 games last season. He started every game for the Wolverines and led the team with 60 3-pointers. He had 10 games with at least three 3-pointers.

The 19-year-old has had a strong run with the Magic in the Las Vegas Summer League thus far. In two games, Houstan is averaging 14 points and six rebounds on 43.8% shooting from 3-point range.

He produced 20 points and six rebounds in his debut on July 7.

No. 1 pick Paolo Banchero has certainly been front and center so far in summer league but Houstan has also impressed in a small sample, as well. He has shot at a high clip from beyond the arc and has also run the floor well and hit the glass hard.

Houstan and Banchero have played like the two best players on the team through their first two games and have dazzled at times. They will be looking to continue that on Monday (9 p.m. EDT, ESPN) when they face Chet Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
