The Orlando Magic on Monday signed former Auburn Tigers forward Chuma Okeke, the 16th pick in the NBA draft, to his rookie-scale contract, the organization announced in a press release.

Okeke missed the entire 2019-20 season in order to rehab an ACL tear suffered in his left knee in March 2019 against North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. He and the Magic agreed to redshirt last season to recover from his injury and not miss a year of his contract.

Okeke has spent much of his time rehabbing with the Magic’s G League affiliate in Lakeland, roughly one hour west of Orlando. He has practiced with some of the team’s G League players and has supported his teammates in Lakeland.

Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in August that Okeke was at the late stages of his recovery. He was unable to practice in 5-on-5 settings due to the coronavirus pandemic but will be integrated into workouts prior to next season.
