Magic news: Jalen Suggs to sit on Monday vs. Hawks with ankle injury

Gary Harris will start in place of Suggs on the road against the Hawks.

Orlando Magic rookie Jalen Suggs will not play on Monday versus the Atlanta Hawks due to a right ankle sprain, the team announced prior to the contest.

Suggs initially suffered the injury on Saturday just 33 seconds into the fourth quarter against the Washington Wizards after he appeared to swat the ball away from a defender. He was able to walk off of the court under his power but would not return to the contest.

The fifth overall pick was a full participant in shootaround on Monday morning but the team wanted to give him the night off in an attempt to rest the injury.

“We’re going to sit him out tonight, just being cautious,” head coach Jamahl Mosley said. “He went through shootaround. We’re just going to treat it day-to-day.”

With Suggs inactive, the Magic will start Gary Harris versus the Hawks.

The contest will be the first of the season that Suggs will miss after starting the previous 13 games for the Magic. He is averaging 11.3 points, 3.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds on 31.2% shooting from the field, including 20.3% from 3-point range.

Orlando had deployed the same five-man starting lineup in each game this season but will now be forced to change it with Harris filling in for the injured Suggs.

The contest between the Magic and Hawks is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. EST.
