Happy days are apparently here again for the Los Angeles Lakers, who went from being stuck between a rock and a hard place to being championship contenders this past season.
After multiple midseason trades that renovated their roster, they had one of the NBA’s best records following the All-Star break. They then rode that momentum all the way into the Western Conference Finals before getting swept there by the Denver Nuggets.
Team legend Magic Johnson is one of many fans and observers who have been feeling the team’s newfound optimism. He feels it has a real shot at winning the world championship this coming season.
Via Los Angeles Times:
“This is a Western Conference championship team. We could actually win everything if we can stay healthy. This team has a real shot. We got three guys — LeBron, AD and D’Angelo — to keep healthy. But with this team, it allows them to take longer breaks because we got guys that can put it in the basket.”
Johnson did add that the Western Conference will be hard for all teams and that he has the defending champion Nuggets as his favorites.
He recently also said that due to all the moves he made that resurrected the Lakers this past season, general Rob Pelinka should win the Executive of the Year award.
