Magic Johnson at Commanders practice, speaks to team

Players and coaches were excited after the minority owner spoke to the team.

As the Washington Commanders were on the practice field in preparation for Sunday’s Week 1 game against the Arizona Cardinals, they had a special guest in town. Minority owner Magic Johnson attended practice with managing partner Josh Harris.

Before Wednesday’s practice, Johnson spoke to the team and it’s clear head coach Ron Rivera and the players were excited.

Rivera was thankful for Johnson speaking to the team, saying what it meant for the players.

Quarterback Sam Howell: “We are so fortunate as players to have a guy like that as a part of the organization that has an open door and is always willing to help us………… He’s been through so many different teams, not only as a player but as an owner, won so many championships on both sides of it.”

Wide receiver Terry McLaurin spoke to Johnson when the new owners were introduced in July and told Johnson he wanted the NBA legend and successful businessman to mentor him. It was a stance McLaurin reiterated Wednesday after Johnson spoke to the team.

Chase Young also spoke on Johnson being at practice.
