[autotag]Maddie Penta[/autotag], a junior who has been a big part of Auburn’s pitching staff since arriving on the Plains, has earned her second SEC pitcher of the week selection of the season as well as the sixth SEC weekly award of her career.
The native of Chesapeake City, Maryland pitched two complete games this weekend against the Missouri Tigers, earning wins in both. Penta only allowed one run off of three hits to post a 0.50 ERA for the weekend. Add on 25 strikeouts to just five walks and holding Missouri to a .070 batting average, and SEC honors awaited her performance.
Penta pitched a complete game on Saturday and matched her career high in strikeouts with 17. That mark also tied the most strikeouts an Auburn pitcher has had in an SEC game.
Penta leads the SEC in wins with 12, ranks second in strikeouts with 158, and is third in ERA with 0.98.
Auburn will be back in action tomorrow night when the Tigers head up to Birmingham for a midweek contest with the Samford Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
